In the latest Tech Pro Research survey, 68% of respondents said their companies are either using or considering the hybrid cloud. 99% of those predict some of their systems and applications will be cloud-based within the next five years. They're getting on board with hybrid cloud for lots of reasons, mainly to save money on hardware.

Among respondents already using the hybrid cloud approach, Microsoft was the number one public cloud provider, followed by Amazon and Google. Microsoft was the top choice for the private cloud side too, followed by VMWare, with OpenStack in distant third.

Those who'd used hybrid cloud services liked the reduced deployment time and ease of use. There are potential downsides though. Respondents had concerns about issues like disaster recovery, outages and higher than expected cost.
