Nickelback, a Canadian rock band known for hits including Rock Star and How You Remind Me, are considered irredeemably naff by many music fans, and Trump isn't the first politician to fall victim to the '[insert name] likes Nickelback' slur.
In 2012 Rahm Emanuel's spokesperson issued a denial after a protester waved a placard suggesting the Chicago mayor likes Nickelback.
And, more recently, the insult has also been directed towards Ted Cruz, Trump's rival for the Republican presidential candidacy - possibly as a response to Trump’s questioning of Canadian-born Cruz’s eligibility to be president.
