The new chair of the watchdog set up to oversee MPs' pay and expenses will be paid over £70,000 a year for just two days work, it has emerged.
David Nuttall, Conservative MP for Bury North, said: "This is the equivalent salary of more than the prime minister's full time salary.
"MPs get a lot of criticism about their pay and expenses and members of the public will be surprised to learn that the boss of the organisation in charge of MP's pay and expenses is on a salary equivalent to more than the PM gets."
The advert reads: "There is no fixed view of where the next chair will come from or what specific professional discipline they will bring.
"What is much more important is your ability to demonstrate your success in working with a complex range of stakeholders and your ability to negotiate and influence in a demanding environment.
"As well as being able to show how you have led organisational and cultural change you will also need to be familiar with the pressures of operating under intense public scrutiny."
Current chair Sir Ian Kennedy is stepping back from the role, which he has held since 2009 following the expenses scandal.
