IDF soldiers noticed the explosives and neutralized them in time, fighting injuries and deaths.

The IDF told Arutz Sheva that the explosives had been planted close the checkpoint with a view to hurt the IDF forces arriving within the area.
It is not yet clear if this became a "lone wolf" attack or a part of a planned try to throw Molotov cocktails, draw troopers into the enviornment, and spark off the explosive machine as they handed the checkpoint.
