Labour moderates 'plan to remove Corbyn ally' from NEC
Moderate Labour MPs are planning to remove one of Jeremy Corbyn's parliamentary aides from the National Executive Committee, the party's ruling body.
It is reported by The Times tooday that there will be a vote at the NEC's meeting next Monday to unseat Steve Rotheram, who is the Labour leader's parliamentary private secretary.
Mr Rotheram could be ousted because his place is normally reserved for a backbencher MP rather than someone from the leadership team.
It could be crucial if the moderate MPs are to stop Mr Corbyn from persuading the NEC, which he is thought to have a majority on, to back the scrapping of Trident.
It is thought that two of Mr Corbyn's most fierce critics - Jess Phillips and John Woodcock - are eyeing up the position.
