The receipt appears to put an end to the debate about he colour of the bus, which at the time was described by Labour as magenta or fushia.

The receipts also disclosed that Labour spent £577 on "chicken suits", which it has in the past used to mock the Conservatives.

In 2012, Labour paid someone wearing a chicken suit to chase Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, down the street.

Labour also spent £223,572 on David Axelrod, a former adviser to President Barack Obama who was hired by Ed Miliband.

He was criticised for rarely visiting Britain during the election campaign.

Ukip spent £10,000 on copies of Nigel Farage's book, the Purple Revolution.

The Conservatives spent more than £250,000 on Facebook advertising, but the amount was eclipsed by spending on direct mail.

One company alone was paid more than £4million to deliver election leaflets on behalf of the party.
