KINGSTON, Jamaica (JIS) — Outgoing chief of the Opposition, Portia Simpson Miller, is proposing that a different Standing Committee on Social safety be based in Parliament, aimed at expanding participation in pension schemes.
The Committee, she recommended, should still additionally focal point on promoting retirement planning and rate reductions in the nation.
She lamented that no longer many Jamaicans take the count of pension and retirement planning significantly, noting that below 15 per cent of the population now contributes to a pension scheme.
She argued that this places an even bigger burden on the State as the society grows older. "This have to exchange as we face the next section of Jamaica's development," she wired.
Simpson Miller turned into making her contribution to the 2017/18 budget Debate within the house of Representatives, these days.
She further argued that the national insurance Scheme (NIS), which has served the nation for more than 50 years, isn't satisfactory to fulfill the nation's needs.
