Dr Welby is not the first cleric to draw attention to Mr Trump's perceived flaws.
The preacher made a point of specifically mentioning Mexican migrants and Syrian refugees, about whom Mr Trump is notably ambivalent.
Afterward the hour-long service Mr Trump said: "I don't know if that was aimed at me ... perhaps."
On another political note during the ITV interview, Dr Welby said that attending last week's international summit in Davos was "a very, very interesting experience".
The Archbishop refused to be drawn on whether priests should grow beards to appeal more to Muslim members of their community, as suggested by one of the country’s most senior clerics.
The Bishop of London, the Rt Rev Richard Chartres, last week singled out two East End priests who had cultivated bushy facial hair “of an opulence that would not have disgraced a Victorian sage”, and said their grooming would appeal to Muslim communities around them.
